Sam Kerchner

I come from Lenox Iowa

Sam had a few reasons to select UNI as his school of choice. The 1st reason is that the large size of the other Iowa universities make them daunting. The 2nd reason is that UNI is traditionaly a liberal arts school that would provide him with a well rounded education. 3rd it's his parent's alma mater.

The major Sam picked to go into at UNI after his 1st semester is IDS. He selected this degree due to the build your own nature of it, he was waffling on weather he should go into computer science, a physical science such as chemistry, or graphic tech which was a bit different from what he'd done before but seemed interesting. That's when he descovered he could study both computer science and graphic technology at the same time, a no brainer decition.

After college Sam dosen't have any concrete career plans. Though he does have some ideas, he figures that for the first two or so years he'll find employment at a print shop or somewhere else befitting of his major near whatever college his girlfiend ends up at, and stay there untill her graduation where they can look for national job opportunities together.

Sam dosen't have any one hobby per se, but here are some of the things he does in his free time and how they may be useful in the future. One thing Sam enjoys in learning new things, often this is done through the consumption of YouTube videos, though sometimes through reading or hands on learning. The ability to self-educate is a valuable skill for any idividual. My current educational endevor is that I've started reading George Orwell's essays. Another hobby is 3D printing and Design, Sam has a 3D printer that he likes to use, though he prefers to print practical items that he has designed himself rather than models found online. This hobby develops skills of iterative design, problem solving, and recognizing when he can fix somthing he sees himself. Other things he likes to do include finding ways to write and use shortcuts using the IOS Shrtcuts app, and playing videogames which have their on educational values.
